Sir Alex Ferguson accepts that the tribal nature of football in England means the whole country won't be behind the Reds on Saturday.
When Sir Matt Busby's team famously triumphed in 1968, everybody backed the English champions to conquer Europe but times have changed and many observers are likely to be favouring Barcelona in the final.
It doesn't concern the United boss but allows him to hark back to a different era when football followers would rally behind British teams in the major competitions - regardless of their club allegiance.
"I think everybody in the whole country, particularly in Scotland because of Matt's links, was rooting for them in 1968 and I was one of them," he said.
"It was a fantastic feat and the whole country was behind them. When Celtic won in 1967, everybody was behind them that night - even Rangers fans.
"It's a different story here. We're in a country with a lot of tribalism. Liverpool fans, United fans, fans from the north, south, east and west. There's a lot of tribalism.
"You're not going to get unanimous support."
