It seems that United has finally become fed up with his childish antics and is ready for a change. The two most notable suitors are Liverpool and Manchester City since both clubs have the purchasing power. Moreover, he would be an ideal fit for both squads.
These moves would also benefit Rooney for a couple reasons. For one, he would be close to home, which would allow for quicker assimilation into the clubs. Additionally, he would be familiar with the competition which would also allow for instant success. Finally, a change in scenery would likely motivate Rooney to return to his once dominant form.
Now, I do realize that many United fans may think that this a poor move, but just think about it. He would bring in nearly £60 to spend elsewhere. Also, his value is as high as it will ever be.
It is safe to say that his production is simply going to slip from here on out. Just look at his production from the last two seasons. His goal total dropped from 34 in 2009 to 16 in 2010. The classic "Super Rooney" is simply a memory of the past.
So the solution is simple, and Alex Ferguson is well aware of this; sell Rooney and bring in another budding star to accompany Chicharito.
Furthermore, United will never be able to defeat Barcelona for a Champions League title with Rooney leading the squad. It may seem impractical, but it is necessary to part with a star to achieve future greatness.
