Manchester United Has Been Aggressive in the Transfer Window, Adding to a Championship Squad
It wasn't always pretty, but Manchester United got the job done.
The Red Devils showcased inconsistency during the 2010-11 campaign, but despite it all, the club managed to win another Premier League and make it all the way to the Champions League final, where they were thrashed by Barcelona.
In the wake of the loss, Sir Alex Ferguson wasted little time getting to work on revamping the roster for next season. The legendary manager made big moves, signing defender Phil Jones, keeper David De Gea and winger Ashley Young to deals early on in the transfer window.
With all of that action, you would have thought that Man U had been embarrassed by their rivals and had a lot to prove.
Instead, the club decided to pull away from the pack.
The Red Devils looked at the market, looked at the budget sheet and decided they were going to take their foot and put it down on the throats of every other team in the Premiership.
Clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are going through periods of change, and none of them have made major signings so far. Manchester United struck early, and the club has plans to continue pulling away from the pack with more big money deals.
The Red Devils have been linked to Arsenal's Samir Nasri, who has been unable to come to an agreement with the Gunners on a long-term contract.
Ferguson has taken a liking to the French midfielder, who would be a bolt of energy and creativity to the Man U offense.
Wenger has steadfastly said he will not sell to Manchester United, and it has allowed Manchester City to emerge as a contender for his services, but the Red Devils will be a player to the very end.
Even if Ferguson fails to land Nasri, he has set the tone for next season, and it's that Manchester United isn't looking to allow teams to hang around in the hunt for the Premiership title.
The Red Devils want to bury the opposition, and if De Gea can provide steady goalkeeping, it will be an uphill climb to unseat Man U from atop the league table.
When you have a championship team, you don't just hope that the unit can get back to the top. You make the most of the opportunity, and that is exactly what Ferguson is doing in this summer's transfer window.
The rest of the Premiership is on notice—the Red Devils are coming for another league crown.
