Manchester United has done everything right in the last few months, except for that 3-1 loss to Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League final, of course. But their attempt to own all of Europe has netted them three of the most prized possessions on the transfer market and it looks like they're on track to avenge that very loss next season.
Phil Jones, Ashley Young and David De Gea are all under the age of 25 and will not only help United next season, but for the foreseeable future as well. Jones and De Gea are two of the very best at their respective positions and have yet to even star for their countries' senior squads on the international level—they're that young.
But United isn't satisfied, not yet, and Sir Alex Ferguson is determined to make sure that the only place celebrating silver next season is Old Trafford.
The Red Devils' pursuit for another midfielder is the only thing they have yet to accomplish and replacing Paul Scholes is proving harder than they'd like. Yet, they remain optimistic and have opened the gates for the world's top talent regardless of position, and that brings us to Samir Nasri.
Arsenal's 24-year-old French wing is in the final year of his contract and carries a £20m rating. The Gunners have reportedly offered him a five-year contract extension but according to a report from The Daily Mirror, he has grown "frustrated" with Arsenal's attempts to contend for silverware.
The report indicates that Nasri is so frustrated, in fact, that he's ready to quit:
Samir Nasri is flying to London for crisis talks on his Arsenal future - and is ready to quit the club ... The midfielder will make it clear he will not sign a new £90,000-a-week contract without also receiving some guarantees. France star Nasri fancies a move to Manchester United after becoming frustrated by Arsenal's failure to challenge for the Premier League title.
Those "guarantees" he speaks of would be guarantees of challenging for the title, and losing players like Cesc Fabregas and Gael Clichy doesn't help the effort too much.
Fabregas wants to return to his boyhood club at Barcelona and Clichy is believed to be on the move to Manchester City. Nasri, meanwhile, has a number of clubs chasing him with United believed to be in the lead.
Arsene Wenger has his work cut out for him, but can't afford to let Nasri walk away free at the end of the season.
As for United, this is just another power move from the top team in England, and stealing Nasri away from Arsenal is a double-edged move that helps and them and kills Arsenal at the same time.
