Exclusive: United to pay Young £130k a week
United sanctioned the bumper personal terms to see off interest from bitter rivals Manchester City - who were offering Young even MORE cash.
The Aston Villa attacker will ink the agreement next Friday when he completes a medical ahead of the £16million switch.
Young’s agent Eric Walters was at Old Trafford this week to finalise negotiations, which will earn his client a whopping £34m in wages.
Young will be the latest part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s busy summer rebuilding programme.
United have been keen on Young since the Mirror revealed on December 24 they had first contacted Villa, we also told you on May 24 that they had firmed up their interest.
Young’s departure from Villa has been inevitable since he broke off contract negotiations last year, but the club refused to sell in January.
He has just 12 months left on his current £65,000-a-week deal at Villa Park, so will be doubling his money at United.
The deal won't go through until next week because Villa do not want to be seen to be chasing in on Young until after they have a new manager in place.
But neither they nor Young are bothering with the end of season talks that had planned between the star and club chairman Randy Lerner.
Versatile Young, who will add to Ferguson’s options both on the wing and in attack, will become one of United’s top earners behind Wayne Rooney, who picks up £250,000-a-week.
Young can now look forward to Champions League football and establishing himself in Fabio Capello’s England squad after scoring twice in 15 international appearances.
The player re-iterated his Champions League ambitions after a man-of-the-match second-half cameo in England’s weekend draw with Switzerland.
Now Villa face a battle to keep fellow winger Stewart Downing, who is wanted by Liverpool and has also aborted contract talks.
