Wayne Rooney Was Made Into A World Cup Scapegoat Says Manchester United Team-Mate

Old Trafford legend believes star is still being made to pay for South Africa failings.

Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes says Wayne Rooney is being made a ‘scapegoat’ following the dire performances in last year’s World Cup.
The Old Trafford veteran insists the criticism Rooney has faced following his foul-mouthed rant into a TV camera was a direct result of the country’s failings in South Africa.
Rooney missed Manchester United’s 2-0 win at home to Fulham on Saturday as the striker began his two-match ban for swearing at Upton Park nine days ago.
England were relying on thier talisman to fire them to glory after he scored 34 goals for United last season.
But Scholes believes his team-mate is shouldering the blame for the second-round exit at the hands of Germany.
“He’s received stick ever since the World Cup, probably,” Scholes said.
“It seems as though he’s been made a scapegoat for what happened and that isn’t right when there are 22 other players in the England squad.
“But Wayne showed at West Ham why he plays for us every week. He showed what he’s capable of doing and he gave United a match-winning performance.”
