Skipper staying calm

Nemanja Vidic says United players enjoyed Sunday’s trophy celebrations but must now calm down and focus on this weekend’s Champions League final.

The Reds will meet Barcelona at Wembley on Saturday in a repeat of the 2009 final in Rome. And Vidic, who described winning a club-record 19th title this season as “amazing” says he’s keen to end the season tasting similar success.
“We remember how it feels to go to the final and lose,” he told MUTV. “It’s one of the saddest moments in my career and I’m sure the players haven’t forgotten that.
“We have to calm down now after the excitement of winning the league. We have to prepare as best we can for Barcelona. Everybody is thinking about the next game – it’s the biggest game of the year.”
Remarkably, despite playing the final at a familiar ground and on home soil, United go into the game as underdogs. Barcelona are Spanish champions and widely regarded as the finest football team on the planet. Vidic, though, is still confident the Reds can lift a fourth European Cup at Wembley.
“We know we’re facing a very good team and we have to be ready both physically and psychologically. You also have to be intelligent – Barcelona have quality but also weaknesses and we’ll try to exploit them and win the game.”
